Level 10 SUCKS
Well alright then. Let's just move on and get it over with, yes?
...
You return to the seventh floor and enter the King's Quarters. You climb a long staircase with four switchbacks. At each landing, there is a tall marble statue of a muscular, armoured, helmed figure carrying a wicked sword. Frescoes surrounding the statue have seasonal depictions... the first is Spring, then Summer, Fall, and Winter. In each, King Greyhelm is shown killing lots of guys or monsters, with majestic Castle Greyhelm and Great Greyhelm Lake in the background.
The top floor, however, is a horror show.
You enter a gigantic throne room, easily 100 meters to the back. Sunlight coming in through stained glass windows casts some gloomy light in the room, and torch sconces are in the very back, illuminating the seated figure of the King himself... who beckons you forward.
As you walk through the throne room, you see what has become of most of the servants and King's men that remained in the castle. Their remains are all here. Various machines, contraptions, and implements of torture fill the room, with mangled, dead bodies in various positions and states of decay. Posts of impalement, a spiked rack, a tongue clamp that fell off when the meat rotted away. A helmet with spikes to impale the eyes within. A man in stocks, with vice clamps around his shattered femurs. And so on. You steel yourselves, and approach the King.
King Greyhelm is... John Romeo?!
"So you've come at last. Yes, it's me, I'm the King of Greyhelm and you are my subjects. That's not a rhyme because I hate rhymes now... you crushed that joy in me. Look about you, my slaves. The remains of those who stayed surround you. You'll join them soon enough when I wield my blade. These poor souls at least got to experience the ecstasy of agony before succumbing to the grave, something that the Knights themselves would not provide. Nor shall I for you."
"I will simply kill you. Each of you in turn."
King John Romeo, aka the King Reginald V of Greyhelm, pulls out the WraithHand Erasmus and hefts his shield Jacintha. He stands on the dais and awaits your move.
